Our Story starts here
Yes, that’s us, over here, waving our little kiwi flag. Now that we have your attention, let the story begin…
It’s late February, 2012. Kako Chocolate is born. What drove us to create this brand? Truth is, we just love making chocolate. So we built a kitchen and started making chocolate. Turns out, we make awesome chocolate, and people keep coming back for more. So we grew. And here we are today, talking to you.
We live in Auckland, New Zealand. A thriving city, with clean air, and some of the most awe inspiring nature in the world just 30 minutes in any direction. Inspiration & some of the world’s finest ingredients, right here on our doorstep. Pretty lucky eh.
Right, back to the story.
The native language of New Zealand is Maori. Kako is a name that reflects our unique New Zealand heritage, and roughly translates to Cacao, the bean that delivers mother nature’s finest food – chocolate! We have a twin Koru symbol which represents creation and harmony. For more on the Koru, go here
MISSION & VALUES
Our mission is to make connections with people and brands all over the world;
to share a chocolate experience;
to add value to every relationship;
and to enjoy the diversity of life to the fullest!
OUR SOURCING POLICY
We only use ethically and fairly traded chocolate. And we only use real ingredients. Because quality matters to us. And so does being responsible. We believe that if each of us does a little bit, we can make a meaningful difference. And not just for us, but for future generations. For more about our ‘little bit’, pop over here.
To learn more about the people who run Kako Chocolate, this is the link you want. It will be activated shortly.
And finally, people often ask how to pronounce Kako. We say, pronounce it however you like. Because, we aren’t too bothered how you say our name, it’s just good to be part of the conversation.

OUR APPROACH TO CHOCOLATE
When we go starry eyed while talking about our ‘art’, we are not just talking about the way the chocolates look. Sure, our chocolates are visually stunning. They are like little sparkling jewels. But this is only one level.
It is the unseen art that really drives us. We take a multi-sensory approach to our chocolate. Smooth velvety textures, aromas that can only come from real ingredients, and the visual appeal of the chocolates all combine to make something quite special. Which is all rather pointless if the taste doesn’t deliver…
Flavour is our real art. You can’t see it, but you can taste it. We dare to do things a little differently. Not to blow our own trumpet, but flavour is something we are really good at. We like to push boundaries and do things with chocolate that haven’t been done before. OK, so we blew our own trumpet a little.
The last ingredient is our team. Chocolate brands are not created over night, and our team works exceptionally hard to deliver a product we can be proud of. Our people are passionate. We love making amazing chocolate. They say food made with passion tastes better – and we agree. The essence of art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure (Dale Carnegie). Basically, we love what we do, and we get a lot of pleasure in creating memorable and enjoyable chocolate experiences.
Sharing our art is how we connect with the world.
It’s our way of saying “Kia ora, from New Zealand.”
